Summer Internship with Hull’s Drive-In Theatre (W&L Community-Based Learning)

The mission of Hull’s Angels is to sustain the historic Hull’s Drive-In Theatre and to serve the community by providing quality, affordable, family entertainment in a safe, clean and welcoming environment. Built in the 1950’s, Hull's Drive-In Theatre has been a part of the Rockbridge area community for more than 70 years. In 2021, due to a significant fundraising effort, Hull’s acquired the land where the drive-in resides, making it wholly owned by the community and members of Hull’s Angels. Learn more about Hull’s here: https://www.hullsdrivein.com/ 
 
Job
 
Hull’s Drive-In Theatre, only one of six drive-ins operating in Virginia, and a non-profit organization, is looking for a Summer 2023 intern. The intern will work directly with Hulls’ Executive Director and support their marketing & promotions, fundraising, business management, and special events. Through this experience, the intern will gain non-profit management experience and learn the in’s and out’s of how the organization works. The intern will also have the opportunity to support on-the-ground movie screenings with patrons. Employment may be offered at the end of the internship to include special event management, theatre projectionist and/or social media marketing. 
 
Qualifications
 
Ability to multitask, strong written and verbal communication skills, able to work independently and on a team, and proficiency in Canva, Excel, and PowerPoint a plus.  
 
Timeframe 
 
7 weeks from Tuesday, June 6th to Friday, July 21st, working approximately 25 hours a week.


 
This internship is part of the Office of Community-Based Learning’s (CBL) internship program. Students will be provided guidance throughout the summer by CBL staff and work directly with their site supervisor. Students will meet with the CBL intern cohort once a week for training and reflection. This is an unpaid internship. However, students can apply for summer funding through Career and Professional Development Office (applications typically due winter term) and the Johnson Opportunity Grant (applications due January or March). Funds are limited and not guaranteed. This internship qualifies for EXP credit (CPD 451) through the CPD office. Sign up for the CPD Canvas Course (go.wlu.edu/Canvas) to receive alerts regarding summer funding and course credit.
